Touchstone Community Chaplain

The Ministry of the Touchstone Chaplain includes:

Chaplaincy to the University / College community: The Chaplaincy Team, Methodist, Anglican, Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Muslim, Sikh and Hindu Faith Advisors, are honorary members of staff at the University and some of the team are also associated with the Bradford College. Since September 2005 the University has provided an office and a meeting room facility on campus for the Chaplaincy Team and Faith Advisors. They are also involved in the development of a Multi Faith Prayer Centre.

The Touchstone Chaplain is available at the Touchstone Centre each day and is also present in the Hub (Richmond Building) 12 to 2pm Monday to Friday.

The Chaplain offers spiritual and practical advice to all Methodist students and any other student requesting assistance. We welcome the Touchstone Student Society and other students to Touchstone on:

Thursday 12.30 to 1pm for Touchstone prayers - includes communion first Thursday monthly

The Touchstone Student Society works ecumenically and with other faith communities in its Christian witness in Bradford whenever possible.

The Chaplain is also available to lead groups on the Bradford Prayer Walk.

Touchstone community Chaplain: Pastoral care and prayer is offered to all who work and visit Touchstone. The ministry also includes expanding the work of Touchstone as a centre for developing spirituality, as a centre of creativity and as a healing community.

This includes encouraging and assisting:

the expression of the gospel, prayers, hymns and liturgies in creative ways;

reflective responses to work in the city context;

local preachers, as co-ordinator for preachers' training based at Touchstone for the Bradford Methodist circuits;

the 'Faith to Faith' worker in organising an Interfaith Women's Group.

The Chaplain is also an advocate for Touchstone when taking speaking / preaching appointments and offers placements to Methodist Foundation students and to those training as Methodist Diaconal Ministers.
