Collecting Cotton Reels for Touchstone

We at Touchstone have discovered that the former Beechfield Hotel was originally the home of John Bonny Dewhurst, director of Dewhurt's sewing cotton based in Skipton.  This has excited us, tying us again to the rich textile history of West Yorkshire.

We saw this as an opportunity for some imaginative fundraising, and as a result, are appealing to you for wooden Dewhurst Sylko cotton reels that you may have lying at the bottom of your sewing box!  The aim is to collect the complete range of Dewhurst Sylko thread shades (over 500 we understand) on vintage wooden cotton reels to auction off to raise funds to restore this building in order to expand the work of Touchstone.

Already we have been overwhelmed by the response - see our Facebook page for pictures of parcels and stories of bemused postmen!  We already have over half the numbers - multiple reels of some shades! Any duplicates we are planning to sell off or donate to sewing projects in Pakistan, so none will be wasted.

Thank you for your supprt.
